What to Wear to your Brand Photography Session:

Your brand is so much more than just a logo and a mission statement; it's a reflection of who you are and what your business stands for. When it comes to brand photography, your choice of clothing can play a pivotal role in conveying your brand's personality while also attracting the right clientele. Here’s a few tips to consider when choosing what clothing to wear to a brand photoshoot:

1.Know Your Brand's Personality:

Before spiraling and taking a deep dive into the deepest parts of your closet, take a deep breath, we’re in this together! I want you to think about your brand as if it were a living, breathing, person–what is its personality and who is its friend group (aka who is your target audience?). Ask yourself, is it sophisticated and professional, playful and whimsical, or somewhere in between? Understanding your brand's character will help you select clothing that aligns while also staying true to yourself.

2.Dress Authentically While Sticking to Your Brand:

Authenticity is key in your brand photography session. Your clothing should reflect you AND the essence of your brand. Avoid dressing to be someone you're not in your photoshoot. For instance, don’t wear something just because it’s deemed ‘trendy’, that you wouldn’t ordinarily wear! Confidence or lack thereof can easily be seen in your photos through your facial expressions and how you carry yourself. Choose outfits that resonate with your personal style and your brand's identity–this will allow people to find you more relatable. If your brand has a specific color palette, consider incorporating these colors into your outfits. This can be done through clothing, accessories, or even a backdrop. Having a consistency in color helps reinforce your brand's visual identity.

3.Choose Versatile Outfits and Plan for Outfit Changes:

Select outfits that can be used in different settings or scenarios to get the most out of your photoshoot. For example, a classic blazer or a timeless dress can be adapted to various backdrops and situations. Variety can be a powerful tool in your brand photo session. You’ll want to plan on having at least three outfit options for a brand photography session. This will create some variety for you to pull from while also creating a bit of a story - showing more than one side of your personality or day-to-day.

4.Little Details Make all the Difference:

Small details like jewelry, accessories, and even shoes can add so much interest to a photo. Ensure that these details align with your brand's style. Subtle touches can convey professionalism, creativity, or any other characteristic you want to emphasize. If you feel like it’s been too long since you’ve gotten your hair done–treat yourself, what better time to look and feel your best. The same thought process goes for other appointments such as a makeup, manicure, pedicures, etc depending on your personal preferences.

5.Trial Run (Before our Brand Photography Session):

One of the most important steps, could quite possibly be the following: Trying on your chosen outfits well before the photoshoot to ensure they fit properly, look how you envision them, and most importantly… are comfortable for you. Nobody wants to be panicking the night before with any last-minute wardrobe mishaps. If you notice anything that needs tweaking, this also gives you time to find something you like better! Remember, you feeling confident in your clothing will radiate through your photos.

As a recap:

Remember, your brand photography session is a golden opportunity to visually communicate who you are and what your brand represents while painting a picture for potential clients to know what it’s like to work with you. By carefully selecting your wardrobe, sticking to your brand's personality and colors, staying true to yourself, and picking a brand photographer that really understands your needs, you’ll be set up for great images that not only feel on brand for you, but that also translate well to your ideal clientele.
